o rly? ya, rly!

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

I showed my husband this story this morning (hat tip: Cleolinda), and all we can say is “Why g-d, WHY?” We aren’t Keanu fans in this house (running jokes: “you DO NOT know kung fu!” and “WHOA!”), nor are we K-Fed fans (cough*douche*cough) and I am at a serious loss for a reason why Hugh Laurie and Forest Whitaker would align themselves with such a contrived story. Seriously: cop’s wife dies, cop becomes alcoholic. Cop’s former mentor frames cop for death of cop’s partner. Explosions, yelling, more gunfire in a day than most cops see in a 30-year career, and cop somehow comes out on top in the end. YAWN. That said, if you see it, I’ll let you do a guest review.

The title sounds self-consciously poetic…

Hayden Panettiere at some release party. Best picture I could get of her, IMO. Seriously, her stylist is putting her in really unflattering dresses. Gold dress on a blonde? What planet are you FROM?

…and I don’t really like Julia Roberts, but Hayden Panettiere is set to star in Fireflies in the Garden with Roberts, Ioan Gruffudd, Ryan Reynolds, and Emily Watson, the National Ledgerreported Monday. IMDB lists the release date as 2008. Willem Defoe also has a role, which makes it almost worth it for me. Again, no babysitter=waiting for netflix. If any of you see it, let me know and I’ll have you write a guest review.

I didn’t resign!

Seth Rogen, looking as goofy & fun as ever, stars in another summer comedy about a slacker who has to make good. This one’s called Knocked Up, and somehow it’s getting decent reviews. Opens June 1, tell me how it is because I don’t have a babysitter so I’ll have to wait for Netflix.

Ack!

It’s been too long!

I miss you, dear reader!

What’s happened since my last post?
Lots of things! Among them:
Season Finale of Heroes
American Idol winner chosen
Stuff magazine declared Seth Rogen’s part in Knocked Up a “star-making role,” though he’s been acting since 1999. Was anyone else sad when Undeclared was canceled? Anyone besides me & my then-roommate (Hi, Jes!) and my husband?

new genre watch?

I’m an unabashed Harry Potter fan. I’m so excited about the fifth movie and seventh book being released that I’m nearly shaking. I’ve been listening to HP podcasts while I knit at night, in the quiet time after The Toddler goes to bed and before The Husband comes home. And apparently there are “wizard rock” bands. Real, legitimate bands, whose music is inspired by the world of Harry Potter. Bands like Hogwarts: A History, Draco and the Malfoys, and the Moaning Myrtles.

I find it fascinating that a book series has inspired an entire genre. Not just the movie soundtracks, which are quite good, but aren’t anything new in general, but a whole new category of music, entirely inspired by this world that Rowling created. Wonderful.

I’m swamped under my master’s project, dear reader. posting will resume when I can come up for air for more than a minute.

So I was reading Cleolinda today and on a whim clicked on the link to fellow Seattlite Blake Lewis’ performance of “You Give Love a Bad Name.” I’ve talked before about how much I don’t like this show. I think it represents everything that has gone wrong with modern society. yet. yet. yet. Blake is GOOD. He’s freaking GOOD. I got CHILLS from that video.

So I’m perusing my usual sites - perezhilton, pink is the new blog, People, searching for some news about someone other than Britney or Ashlee (haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate the spelling, ma & pa Simpson, just FTR) or Angelina or Kate “eat a damned sandwich already” Moss. But nothing’s coming up. Nada. I know I said I’d talk about Coconut Records, and I’m sure Billboard has something interesting in its “Breaking and Entering” section, but I’m getting bored with talking about music. Woe.
