because I haven’t talked much about art yet

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

So it’s been All Harry All the Time in the NewCelebWatch household for the last week or two, and it will likely be so for a while yet (still haven’t come down off that new book high). So today I bring you art. Really awesome doll art. Amanda from NJ is a photographer (among other things, I’m sure) who goes by not_persephone on flickr and has a really neat set of Harry/Ginny photos, done with dolls. You know how in Half-Blood Prince, it talks about fun times spent under the big tree & walking by the lake? Well those are the scenes that Amanda recreated with these dolls. Go check it out!

Evanna Lynch is made of awesome

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

The Husband and I went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix the other day, and all of the hype about the movie got a mixed reaction from our household. One point of awesome, however, one role that wasn’t hyped more than it deserved, was Evanna Lynch’s Luna Lovegood. It’s like Cleolinda said: who would have thought a Luna fangirl could go to an open audition, say, “No one knows Luna like I do,” and BE RIGHT?

Somehow, I’m not impressed

Monday, July 16th, 2007

I was going through my back issues of Rolling Stone, and Amy Winehouse was the cover interview a few issues back. I have to admit, I hadn’t heard of her before, but what I read in that article left me less than impressed. She seemed whiny and codependent, the kind of person you’d see on “Behind the Music” in another 10 years. Drinking a lot, cutting herself, whirlwind marriage, blah blah blah. She wears a lot of makeup and has a lot of tattoos and wears her hair in a beehive and she whines a lot. Maybe the author didn’t like her or something, and that came through in the tone of the article, but I just wasn’t impressed. I’ll leave you with a video, so you can make your own decision.

Can’t embed it, but here it is.

Hansen wrote their own music, too…

Monday, July 9th, 2007

I think I’ve established already that I have a soft spot for high-energy teenybopper pop. Well, thanks to Cleolinda, I have fallen head-first into the rabbit hole that is Aly and AJ. They write their own music, one of them (haven’t figured out which is which, to be honest) plays guitar, and they’ve already had one album go platinum. They might not be the brightest bulbs in the box (AJ called evolution “silly” in a Blender interview), but as long as they’re not flashing themselves, getting drunk and then driving away, or marrying two-bit wannabe rap stars to spite their mommy, I can deal with the dumb. They’ll get to college and realize what’s what. For now, enjoy this video. The Toddler was immediately dancing to it, and even The Husband was whistling the tune after one listen-through.

Do yourself & your baby a favor and EAT A GODDAMNED SANDWICH.

When I was pregnant with The Toddler, Britney Spears was pregnant with Sean Preston & Jennifer Garner was pregnant with Violet. I was sandwiched between the stars, due in November when Spears was due in late September/early October and Garner in mid-December. Now, I’ve gone and got myself pregnant with babe #2, and who’s knocked up now? Due, according to conjecture, 6 weeks before I am? Nicole “it’s not an eating disorder, it’s heroin addiction” Ritchie. And of course I’m going to follow the news like a freakin’ VULTURE because that is what I DO.

How does he keep getting WORK?

Wait, WHAT?
Best Family Guy line ever. Of course, Chris Griffin wasn’t referring to Robin Williams in this case, but I think it’s applicable. Fans of the American version of The Office will recognize John Krasinski as Ben Murphy, a guy who just wants to get married in the new summer comedy License to Wed. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons (not all of them related to the plot), Williams is the pastor who’s planning on performing the ceremony. Combine Williams’ ability to slaughter any movie he’s been in for the last 10-15 years (Death to Smoochie? Come ON now!) with the complete lack of press that this movie’s gotten so far and Krasinski will have to dig himself out of a hole. Fortunately, he has a few other films in the pipeline (according to his IMDB page), so he might be able to overcome this debacle.
