Amy Winehouse

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

“They tried to make me go to rehab, But I said no, no, no”

I can’t get those lyrics outta my head! And can you blame Miss Winehouse for having an alcohol problem? (Haha, get it?)

Here’s some trivia on her:

Birth Name: Amy Jade Winehouse
Height: 5′ 3″ / 1.60 m (That’s kinda short, but her legs do seem very long in her videos.)
Spouse: Blake Fielder-Civil (18 May 2007 - present)
Awards: Nominated for two Brit Awards in 2003
Nominated for a Mercury Music Award in 2004
Her second album “Back to Black” reached #1 in the UK Albums Charts (2006)
Won a Brit Award for “Best British Female” in 2007

Mini Biography
Born in London, Amy was brought up on jazz music. After a brief spell at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in Marylebone, she left and started to attend the Brit School in Surrey, UK. Her debut album, Frank, was released in 2003.

And here’s a treat for those who don’t wanna get the Rehab tune outta your head!

So what is Wentworth Miller up to these days? Doesn’t seem like much is going on with this private guy. It’s hard to track his movements; Looks like his on-screen character is catching up with him off-screen.

Anyway, if you, like me, are wondering just what in the world does the name “Wentworth” mean, you may like to look at the following provided by wentworthmilleronline.com:

Name Analysis
* The name Wentworth creates the urge to understand others, but we emphasize that it causes procrastination, lack of confidence, and the inability to realize your goals.

* This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the fluid systems.

Burn Notice - Gabrielle Anwar

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

What happens when spies get fired from their job?

They get BURNED… (Kinda like how Micheal Kelso burns Eric in That 70’s show)

In Burn Notice, Jeffrey Donovan stars as Michael Westen, an international spy who suddenly finds himself blacklisted. Dumped in his hometown of Miami without money or resources, Michael struggles to put his life back together and find out why he’s been burned. In the meantime, he uses his unique skills and training to help people in need … mostly people who can’t get help from the police.

Michael is joined by Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) an ex-IRA operative, who also happens to be an ex-girlfriend; and Sam (Bruce Campbell), a washed-out military intelligence contact who’s being used by the feds to keep tabs on Michael.

I have seen about 8 episodes of it so far, and it’s kinda witty and slick.

If all that doesn’t convince you to watch Burn Notice, this will:-

On The Lot Winner

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

will_bigham.jpg

Well, after 16 episodes of mini-films, the director that is going to work for Steven Spielberg is… Will Bigham!

I was actually kinda disappointed with the finale (or more specifically, the last 2 episodes). I was hoping that the final 3 contestants would direct one last film, maybe for a length of about 20 mins (a typical sitcom length, w/o the commercials), as the final challenge. Instead, viewers have to vote for the winner based on the 2 best 3-min films that the final 3 contestants have done in the past 12 weeks. Furthermore, since the winner is goona work for Steven Spielberg, shouldn’t their future boss come and sit in as the judge for the last episode?

On another note, I was rooting for Jason to win (after Zach’s departure), and here’s why:-

Will a Director ever become a fan-mobbed Celebrity like an Actor/Actress? We will have to stay tuned to find out, won’t we?

Nike Unveils New Performance Designs

Friday, August 24th, 2007

ms1.jpg

When Maria Sharapova, the No. 2 seed in the women’s tennis circuit defends her US Open title next week, the 20 year old will be wearing tennis dresses decorated with graphic interpretations of New York’s skyline near her neckline. The designs, created in collaboration with Nike senior designer Colleen Sandieson, were shown off at a news conference Wednesday evening on top of the Rockefeller Centre.

Like last year, Sharapova will have one outfit dedicated for day play and another for night matches.

Oh man, would you look at that dress? How are you ever going to play Tennis in that? Well, if anyone can pull it off, it is Miss Sharapova. Actually, I think she’s earning more from her advertisement deals than playing tennis. However, you still gotta be impressed by her skills… She’s No. 2 in the world after all.

On another note, if she’s ever wants to do a career switch and be a full-time model, she still has a long way to go… Long way…

Here’s a pict to prove my point:-

(I know what you are thinking now… What’s with me and red dresses??)

Rachel Nichols

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

rn1.jpg

Wow, ain’t that a cutie? And that red dress… Drool…

Anyway, for the unintiated, the above is Rachel Nichols. I have seen her first in Alias (Season 5) and she’s not only a looker, but she can act too (albeit not that polished yet)

Here’s some background info on her:-

D.O.B: 8 Jan 1980
Birth Place: Augusta, Maine, USA
Birth Name: Rachel Emily Nichols
Height: 5′ 10″ (1.78 m)
Education: Graduated from Columbia University with a double major in math and economics (I’m impressed; Would love to discuss maths and econs with her someday)
Working Exp: Modelled for Guess?, Abercrombie & Fitch, L’Oreal and Nicole Miller
Got the first role she auditioned for, as the restaurant hostess on “Sex and the City” (1998)
Other Trivia: Ranked #28 in Maxim’s 100 Sexiest Women (2003)
Yahoo Model of the Month (2000)

Here’s another shot of her:-
rn2.jpg
She’s at the Los Angeles Premiere of “Resurrecting the Champ” at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on August 22, 2007 in Beverly Hills

What’s Resurrecting the Champ, you say? You will be the first to know once I have found out!

The Bourne Ultimatum

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Well, Matt Damon ain’t exactly a new celeb, but I have just seen the movie, so I thought I should blog about it while it is still fresh in my memory.

Overall, the Bourne Ultimatum is quite a decent action flick, though I wouldn’t say its the best action film of the year, like its cracked up to be. Here’s what I think of it:-

The Good
The part where Bourne tricked the “bad” director into giving his voice.
The “in-your-face” fight sequences.

The Bad
Too many “in-your-face” fight sequences.
The ending - At least its not a “boy gets girl after killing off all the bad guys” kinda show.
How in the world does Bourne know where all the cameras are (if he had not done any survelience in the first place)?

The Verdict
You still gotta watch it - It’s Jason Bourne (or David Webb) for pete’s sake!

Blogger Found!

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Hi Y’all!

I’m the new blogger for this site. I hope to bring you as much Entertainment News and Celebrity Gossips as possible! As this is a new genre for me, do send me your comments on like what you hope to see more of on this site, or even what you hope to see less of.  Are there any improvements you feel that could be made from the previous version? After browsing through the previous posts, I realised my taste in Music, Movies and TV differ a great deal from the previous writer. (Well, for one thing, I ain’t a big Harry Potter fan, gasp!) I guess that is good news for some, and bad news for others. Well, we will know along the way, won’t we?

I hope to introduce some new categories to this site as well. For example, I’ll bring to you guys and gals what I call “Star Analytics” - Whether a newbie has the staying power of Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie, or is he/she just a one hit wonder, like the band “Damage”. (Does anybody find the band name even remotely familiar?)

Once the admin issues are sorted out, you will see my 1st (or should it be 2nd?) post in no time!

because I haven’t talked much about art yet

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

So it’s been All Harry All the Time in the NewCelebWatch household for the last week or two, and it will likely be so for a while yet (still haven’t come down off that new book high). So today I bring you art. Really awesome doll art. Amanda from NJ is a photographer (among other things, I’m sure) who goes by not_persephone on flickr and has a really neat set of Harry/Ginny photos, done with dolls. You know how in Half-Blood Prince, it talks about fun times spent under the big tree & walking by the lake? Well those are the scenes that Amanda recreated with these dolls. Go check it out!

Evanna Lynch is made of awesome

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

The Husband and I went to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix the other day, and all of the hype about the movie got a mixed reaction from our household. One point of awesome, however, one role that wasn’t hyped more than it deserved, was Evanna Lynch’s Luna Lovegood. It’s like Cleolinda said: who would have thought a Luna fangirl could go to an open audition, say, “No one knows Luna like I do,” and BE RIGHT?

Somehow, I’m not impressed

Monday, July 16th, 2007

I was going through my back issues of Rolling Stone, and Amy Winehouse was the cover interview a few issues back. I have to admit, I hadn’t heard of her before, but what I read in that article left me less than impressed. She seemed whiny and codependent, the kind of person you’d see on “Behind the Music” in another 10 years. Drinking a lot, cutting herself, whirlwind marriage, blah blah blah. She wears a lot of makeup and has a lot of tattoos and wears her hair in a beehive and she whines a lot. Maybe the author didn’t like her or something, and that came through in the tone of the article, but I just wasn’t impressed. I’ll leave you with a video, so you can make your own decision.

Can’t embed it, but here it is.

Hansen wrote their own music, too…

Monday, July 9th, 2007

I think I’ve established already that I have a soft spot for high-energy teenybopper pop. Well, thanks to Cleolinda, I have fallen head-first into the rabbit hole that is Aly and AJ. They write their own music, one of them (haven’t figured out which is which, to be honest) plays guitar, and they’ve already had one album go platinum. They might not be the brightest bulbs in the box (AJ called evolution “silly” in a Blender interview), but as long as they’re not flashing themselves, getting drunk and then driving away, or marrying two-bit wannabe rap stars to spite their mommy, I can deal with the dumb. They’ll get to college and realize what’s what. For now, enjoy this video. The Toddler was immediately dancing to it, and even The Husband was whistling the tune after one listen-through.

why do they keep DOING this to me?

Do yourself & your baby a favor and EAT A GODDAMNED SANDWICH.

When I was pregnant with The Toddler, Britney Spears was pregnant with Sean Preston & Jennifer Garner was pregnant with Violet. I was sandwiched between the stars, due in November when Spears was due in late September/early October and Garner in mid-December. Now, I’ve gone and got myself pregnant with babe #2, and who’s knocked up now? Due, according to conjecture, 6 weeks before I am? Nicole “it’s not an eating disorder, it’s heroin addiction” Ritchie. And of course I’m going to follow the news like a freakin’ VULTURE because that is what I DO.

How does he keep getting WORK?

Wait, WHAT?
Best Family Guy line ever. Of course, Chris Griffin wasn’t referring to Robin Williams in this case, but I think it’s applicable. Fans of the American version of The Office will recognize John Krasinski as Ben Murphy, a guy who just wants to get married in the new summer comedy License to Wed. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons (not all of them related to the plot), Williams is the pastor who’s planning on performing the ceremony. Combine Williams’ ability to slaughter any movie he’s been in for the last 10-15 years (Death to Smoochie? Come ON now!) with the complete lack of press that this movie’s gotten so far and Krasinski will have to dig himself out of a hole. Fortunately, he has a few other films in the pipeline (according to his IMDB page), so he might be able to overcome this debacle.
