Gemma Arterton, Bond Girl
British actress Gemma Arterton joins Daniel Craig in his second Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, which will be playing in theaters next month. She will play one of the iconic Bond Girls but has insisted her character isn’t all that hot, feisty and sexy. She’s taking on a new approach and hopes to exude a different kind of persona for her Bond Girl character.
Speaking with the press, Gemma Arterton says —
- “There is a formula to Bond women. They’re his women. You just have to make them your own in any way you can. To the normal guy, they’re unobtainable but I didn’t want that. I wanted my character to be a girl from down the road who does this job - we don’t know exactly what she does but she goes to work every day - and comes back and she goes down the pub at the weekend and has a drink. At first you might think she was a bit of a snooty bitch but she’s actually quite nice when you get to know her. I wanted to make her real. She’s not hot but I hope there’s a charm to her.”
Twenty two year old Gemma Arterton first appeared as supporting cast in Capturing Mary when she was still taking classes at drama school. In 2007, after graduating, she made her film debut in St. Trinian, which was also a role Sienna Miller was eyeing. She was chosen to play Fields in Quantum of Solace among 1500 other hopefuls.
Gemma Arterton is also the new Avon image model, particularly endorsing the Bond Girl 007 fragrance.
