How Is Josiah Leming Doing?
Do you remember this guy? Josiah Leming? The British-sounding, car-living young dropout who auditioned on American Idol but was cut from being included in Top 24?
One year after being turned down from American Idol, he is poised to release his album with Warner Brothers records by January.
All grown up at 19 years old told LA Times the circumstances of his departure from Idol and what he has been doing since moving from Tennessee to Los Angeles and writing his songs.
On what happened to American Idol: “The real story is that the producers didn’t like me, ‘Cause I wanted to do my own songs, and I wanted to have complete control. The producers pretty much control everything. You know, it’s all kind of rigged, and hands are coming in from places you don’t see. You just see the hand. It’s a dirty hand. And you don’t want to eat the food that that hand touches. They would show, like, ‘After the break, see this random kid cry,’ and then after the break, there I am crying.”
His manager, Dan Spillo, was crucial to his landing a deal with Warner Bros Records. He tracked him down in his hometown of Tennessee and made possible his appearance on the Ellen Show after his boot.
The singer is currently learning to settle down in LA, but feels quite out of place yet — “It’s all, like, kinda glitz and glam, and I don’t dig it. It’s like, it’s beautiful on the face, but there’s nothing underneath. It’s money and greed and sex appeal. And just no core values.”
