Isla Fisher is a Shopaholic
![]()
Perhaps grabbing celebrity headlines for dating Borat (aka Ali G), Isla Fisher will soon be the talk of the town when her first movie starrer in Hollywood, Confessions of A Shopaholic, is released early next year. The movie is a highly anticipated chick flick based on the best-selling book by Sophie Kinsella.
Will she become the next female icon?
Born in Oman in the mid-70’s Isla Fisher grew up in Australia and began acting at the age of 9 in television commercials. Her breakout project was starring in a very popular Australian soap, Home and Away. In 1998 FHM chose her as one of sexiest women in the world. But the actress isn’t all just all about good looks, for Isla is also an accomplished writer with two best-selling teen romance books in Australia.
After her lesbian character was written off her soap opera, Isla moved to the UK to pursue her career, where she met the British comic Sacha Baron Cohen or Ali G. The couple now lives in Los Angeles with their daughter Olivia. Both are pursuing their Hollywood careers.
Isla has landed roles in films like Scooby-Doo (2002), I Heart Huckabees (2004) and Wedding Crashers (2005). She was also part of the voice cast in the animated series Horton Hears A Who!
In Confessions of A Shopaholic, Isla plays Rebecca Bloomwood a newly graduated college student with a very stressful job as a magazine staff and a shopping addiction.
The full synopsis from IMDb and video trailer:
- Based on the book by Sophie Kinsella. Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) is 25 year olds, lives with her best friend Suze (Krysten Ritter) in Suze’s flat (paying her friend rent that is well below market value), in a trendy part of town, has a very boring job writing for a financial magazine, and she has a shopping addiction, for which her crap job doesn’t pay enough. Her bills are piling up, so she tries cutting back (complete fiasco), then she tries making more money (another fiasco). Eventually, Becky discovers a story that she is truly invested in. Exposing the story gets the attention of a (male, need I say more?) colleague that she hasn’t quite figured out yet. Some drama ensues as she snags the (EXTREMELY hot) guy, and she attempts to pay off her ever-growing debt.
