Not celebrity so much as notable
We do a lot of reading around this house. Everything from Are You My Mother? to I Love Everybody (And other Atrocious Lies) to When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops to Founding Mothers. Now, I know this blog is supposed to be about new “celebrities,” and I assure you most of the time it will be (barring slow news days, like today, jeesh), but I want to branch out, too. So today I want to talk about Nickname Press, a new Canadian publishing company. Nickname Press publishes children’s’ books about non-traditional families. So far there are three titles: Ryan’s Mom Is Tall, The Not-So-Only Child,and Monicka’s Papa Is Tall. As a mom, I think it’s awesome when I find books about families that aren’t the same as every other family shown in the media. Certain organizations don’t agree with me, and thus we celebrate and participate in Banned Books Week every year, looking into why certain books are controversial. No doubt the books published by Nickname Press will be on that list (just as Heather Has Two Mommies and a number of others are), and I say kudos to them for that.
